Makkah Hallal - inconsistent in a good way

SKU | Oct 22, 2003 11:49 AM

I've been meaning to post about this South Asian place for some time. It is in a strip mall at Vermont and 4th and one of my favorite of many local Pakistani/Bangladeshi eateries (and they deliver). Funny thing is, it's inconsistent, but in a good way. It seems that the ingredients for all of the dishes are the same, but the proportions can vary, quite a bit (based on who's cooking perhaps). I've had the lamb tika many times; sometimes it has a concentrated tomato taste, sometimes it is luxuriously creamy. The shrimp coconut curry can varry from thin and oily to thick and creamy. Sometimes the fabulous dal is heavy on the garlic, sometimes other spices are emphasized. Still, no matter what variations I get, they are all very good. It makes it more akin to eating at home than in a restaurant, sometimes you use more of this ingredient, sometimes more of that. Samosas and sag paneer are also quite good. The only thing I've been dissatisfied with are the breads.
