Making Butter

I'd like to try this, and it seems quite simple. Cream, cuisinart, drain, wash, salt, mold. Any pointers? And how long does the washing take? Also, do I need to culture it first. I know technically I don't, but I'm wondering about how much better the end result would be if I did.
