Anyone know a half-decent time to go to Berkeley Bowl...??? I just moved from seattle down here and live in Rockridge and LOVE/ADORE/DREAM about BB's phenomenal produce.

BUT, equally amazing is how
a) imposssible it is to find parking
b) how terminally long it takes to get through any checkout line...

As a working stiff during the day I can't get in there during 'Soccer Mom' hours when it's likely less busy but, with a closing time of a mere 8pm, even when I shop at 7:50pm it's always bedlam. As for attempting the weekends-- well I made that mistake today-- FUGGEDABOUTIT!!!! I think I aged 3 birthdays in the time it took me to finally pay for my HONEYCRIPS apples and heirloom tomatoes with beautiful white corn... I keep swearing off the place b/c of the wait but the produce is too good.

East bay Chowhounds-- any help??

I know YASAI is another option but it pales really vd Berkeley Bowl and I'm saving for a house and wouldn't consider the 2nd mortgage it takes to shop at whole foods on Telegraph...

Thanks in advance--
East Bay Newbie

PS I came upon this site while perusing the Chowhounds book at barnes & nobles... now I am hooked-- people who love food (but are not "food snobs") as much as me-- COOL.
