Lunch at Nine Thirty

Zoe | Apr 20, 200606:43 PM

Thanks to Chica's rec, we sat poolside at the Nine Thirty restaurant at the W. Whenever I go there I feel that I am excruciatingly hip although I do not weigh 93lbs and am not totally clothed in black - it has that affect on me - great decor - I love the "shower curtains" in the lobby and the Japanesey women's room where the plumbing shakes (just like one of my sinks at home). Had some trouble finding the entrance to the restaurant and asked five people - lots of staff but no answers - just vague waves, its through the glass doors - but which doors? The ones up the steps we found. Sat at the bar to wait for our table and I had a Pimms cup (the bartender had never heard of it despite the bottle being on the shelf). Drank just a little of this before the bus person poured iced tea in it by mistake, so was saved the afternoon hangover (Mme Zoe is still sleeping off her gin and tonic which was a celebration of a settlement of a long standing lawsuit).

But to the food: OK bread; I had tuna sashimi (waitperson said the portion was not big - I disagree, those were fat servings); friend had a caesar salad and Mme Zoe had the salmon which I thought a bit pricey for a lunch menu - $25. We shared a lemon tart - extraordinary with a lemon sorbet stuffed lemon half AND candied lemon rinds (we fought for those).

The Mood: trendy Westwood - good for a late b'day celebration. The food: satisfying, tasty and nicely presented. Overall impression - Lotsa people working there not doing too much. Take a jacket if you are going to sit on the patio, its very breezy even when its sunny.
