Finally made brunch at Luna Park yesterday. This is an LA outpost of the one in SF, or at least that is my understanding? It is just barely north of Wilshire Blvd. on the east side of La Brea.
We got there about 1:20 and they were not at all busy. We were seated in one of the booths with curtains along the back wall. It seems a little dark and on the depressing side to me, but not enough to really be unhappy about it. Maybe just the dark walls and floors?
Service was very good. Kitchen was slow to very slow getting our three brunch items out, especially given the small crowd they had. Our waitress was terrific, as were the other help with water refills and more coffee, etc.
I had one of their specialty drinks with orange flavored vodka. Not really anything to brag about. My wife's bloody mary was likewise passable, but not more than that.
Our newly minted driving 16 year old son had a burger. He said it was okay, but the fries were his rave review. I have to concur, great fries. My wife had the Grilled Monte Cristo with Ham, Turkey and Gruyere Cheese on Egg Battered Bread with same excellent French Fries and I had the Grilled Flat Iron Steak and Eggs with Smashed Potatoes and Salsa Verde. Also excellent. We finished with S'mores and I have nothing but good things to say about that dessert concept, being a complete sucker for chocolate, melted gooey marshmallows and fresh graham crackers.
Overall I would give it a solid B to B+ for food,(at least in the catagory of casual fare restaurants) and service, (except for the slow kitchen) and a C- for interior warmth/design.
