Lubberwort, well done

greygarious | Mar 16, 2014 12:39 PM

On NPR's "Says You" today, one of the definition quiz words was lubberwort. A new one to me, it means food or drink of no nutritional value, i.e., junk food. Initially, it was a mythical herb said to make people lazy and idle. I'm amazed it's not in common use today, much less in foodie circles. I hope we Chowhounders can help get it into circulation.

Also on NPR, "Moth-eaten", the current installment of "The Moth" is food-centered. Adam Gopnik. one of the three contributors, has a humorous essay about coming to terms with his family's preference for overcooked meat.
