Luang Prabang, Laos
LP has a lot of good eats - unfortunately few are by and for locals. Where we ate:
Khemkong view restaurant - nice patio - had a western breakfast here that was OK.
Cafe Ban Vat Sene - competently done coffee and baked goods. Nice place to chill.
Le Banneton - I actually liked Vat Sene better in terms of atmosphere/service and they serve similar food.
Ikon Klub - well done craft cocktails and a cozy space. Could compete in SF or other western cities. Prices are high $8 - 10 per drink
Rosella Fusion - only had drinks here but has a nice fruity cocktail selection, is on the water, and 1/2 the price of Ikon Klub.
Pork soup noodles place on side street east of museum (next to Blue Lagoon) - this restaurant is by and for locals making a really tasty and very clear broth with generous helpings of meat, herbs and noodles. Lots of condiments too!
Coconut Garden - lonely planet delivered on this one. Great spicy boar sausage. Stuffed peppers and a fish main were very flavorful earthy, herbal and with some of the standard SE Asia flavor. Was able to make a reservation in the morning for same day dinner.
3 Nagas restaurant - solid food. Had a very distinctive lemon grass soup with lots of sour herbs, we also had tasty crispy rolls, and 2 mains: boar and fish with lots of layering of sour, herbal and spicy notes. Was able to make a reservation in the morning for same day dinner.
Tamarind was booked consider reserving ahead.
