At the risk of sounding like the biggest "know nothin" about what's good and what's not, I had my dear hubby drive me clear cross town today in search of this wonderful food I've been reading about on this site. Yes we went to Farmer's market in quest of the most delicious tacos in Southern California and other places they say. Well, I'm so sorry but what a bigggg disapointment. We tried the shredded beef, chicken tinga, chicken mole and the chicharron tacos at Loteria. The beef was over cooked and tasteless. The mole was dry and tasteless. The chicharron was way too salty and no kick to the salsa verde. I didn't taste the chicken tinga but my husband said it was just okay. The tortillas were good. They usually are when handmade. They were out of fideo. The liquado (limon) was warm and sour. Sorry guys, I'll hang around my neck of the woods and enjoy the excellent tacos that we can find anywhere in East L.A. P.S. On another note, so as not to be completely disappointed in the trip, we went to an ice cream stand and I ordered a hot fudge sundae. It's been a long time and I was salivating at the thought. Oh my God, $5 for a small scoop of brand D vanilla with some awful tasting chocolate goop on top, some imitation whipped cream and a cherry. When I asked where the nut topping was I was told that was 50 cents extra. Stay away puhlease!!!! Didn't even look back to get the name but I think it was Gilmore or some such thing.
