London Report - longish

Just got back from a week in London where I drank and dined till I could drink and dine no more (no mean feat I can tell you).

Arrived on Saturday and had a light lunch at the Carlton Tower, Kinghtsbridge. I love this hotel and the food in the lounge downstairs is a great way to chill after a 9 hour flight. Club sandwich was good (I needed something simple as I was out with clients in the evening to :

The Red Fort. Really good food but Im afraid the service is now tired. They were trying to turn too many tables too quickly and the eveing was rushed as a result. The Lamb Biryani though is a must and the tandoori monkfish delightful.

Lunch the next day was a trip to the Ivy. After tee many martunis the night before I opted for a satisfying sausage and mash while my dining partner had the shepards pie. The food is good but lets face it, that is not why people go to the Ivy.

Dinner was at The Wolsey on Piccadilly with clients. I love this place, possibly the most English high quiality and consistent restaurant in London. The eggs and hollandaise never dissapoints although my client allowed me one or two of her snails which were perfect. My main was seabass as they had taken the faggots off the menu. (faggots are meatballs consisting of various bits of offal and spices).

Dinner the following evening was at E and O in Notting hill. This is a great spot. cool atmosphere and good servce as well as being reasonably priced. The chilli squid appetizer was one of the best squid dishes Ive had and the braised pork belly (huge in the UK at the moment) was fabulous.

Tuesday took me to Vasco and Pierros in Poland street. Great Italian with fresh light and pure italian food.

Wednesday was Arbutus, nice atmosphere and decor but the service was poor. Booked a table but they put us at the bar. The rabbit was over salted and the menu frankly uninspiring.

Then headed to the country for a few days of pub food.......As a brit now living in North America I needed to stock up on carbs and warm brown flat beer. It was all that I wished for and so much more!
