I just had, for the first time in my life, a "Peruvian Lomito Sandwich." I was drawn by a chalk sign daring passersby to try one, so I did. This version was made by Kiks Cafe in El Cerrito, which was previously a mom 'n' pop mediterranean cafe sort of place.
I have to say, it wasn't bad at all -- it was basically a steak sandwich with marinated beef. At $8, it is a welcome addition to the otherwise sparse El Cerrito lunch landscape. It's not worth a detour, mind you -- I think I would prefer if the bread were not so thick and doughy, and if the lettuce inside were a bit fresher, but I will definitely have one again.
So, who in the Bay has the best or archetypal examples of this sandwich, so I can compare?
