Hi, folks. I was just curious where most people find local meats/eggs that aren't so expensive it's prohibitive? Unfortunately, I do live on a budget so spending $10.99/lb for chicken can be a bit much, BUT I fully understand you are paying for quality, no antibiotics, hormones, etc. Right now, I do buy Bell & Evans chicken at Whole Foods. I try to buy grass fed beef if I can or it's on sale at WF. I'd love to find another place though where I could support local vs. the WF conglomerate if of course I can afford it. Someone had mentioned Tendercrop Farm in Newbury. Obviously that's a bit of a hike, but if I happen to be going to visit my parents in Southern Maine, I do go through that area. I could stock up and go a few times a year I guess. Their prices seem to be less than what I see at the farmers' markets here in Cambridge, Boston. Does Wilson Farms for instance sell more local or humanely raised meats, eggs? Other places relatively close to the Cambridge/Boston area? Would love to hear your recommendations as to whether there are any places I could go but not go broke. Again, I'm willing to pay extra, but some of the meats I see are way up there in cost ($15+ a pound, which w/ my budget is a luxury).
