I've been blown away by some of the grass fed beef I've been eating lately. Some I've picked up at Farmers' Markets and some from Whole Foods (on Hounds' recommendations). It seems that there is great relatively local grass fed beef to be found everywhere from Citarella to the greenmarket on 110th Street. The one place I have haven't seen it is Fresh Direct. I've been getting swamped with mailings about their commitment to local products (they have great stuff from Ronnybrook and Satur Farms) but they do not stock local beef.
I called a few days ago and was told that they've started to see more and more requests for local beef but that there doesn't seem to be a market for it in NYC. I guess I wonder how many of us there are out there who both eat pastured meats and use Fresh Direct? I'm wondering if it might be profitable for them to carry it.
