I tend to be completely suspicious of any food writers and their top 10 lists, especially in this damn city - most of the major magazines servicing this area tend to pick spiffy places where the food tastes dead to me.
But there are two food writers I trust - J. Gold for one and Linda Burum most of all, Linda Burum who has been unerring, Linda Burum who gave me the gift of Otafuku, which may be my favorite joint these days, and I just spotted in the new Los Angeles magazine issue a Top 10 Cheap Eats from Linda Burum. I glanced through. All neat looking ethnic joints. Speaking as ChowNews Editor, who has to read every post every week on this board - be that curse or blessing - of the 10 I recognized only one name - Hua's Garden. Everything else is virgin.
