Mr. Taster's post on the Moon festival somehow reminded me of this place and doing a search on Chowhound, I discovered to my dismay no one has brought up this as an option for dim sum in the SGV.
If you're really looking for a classic, cantonese style cooking give it a try. Although the banquet hall shows it's age, it's still a popular spot for wedding banquets. Ambiance aside, what you're really here for is the food.
Personally, the best way to tell if the chef is doing a good job is trying out the phoenix talons (chicken feet) and tripe. The seasoning for these dishes are the most complex, and here the dishes are superb.
For the faint of heart, the har gow is quite tasty with the thin flour skin giving the right amount of elasticity. The shu mai, lo bak go (turnip cakes), egg tarts and sesame balls are also worth trying. Portions are generous and the prices are a steal.
Warning: fans of New Concept and Mission will be off put by the sheer mass of people, noisy atmosphere, and bustling carts.
