Besides many fun food discoveries in last month's visit to Ensenada, I soon uncovered that Jaime shares my weakness for ice cream in all forms. Also, I've been known to sample a dozen flavors before making up my mind, and he went step-for-step with me on tasting as well. On Day 2, we checked out the Zona Centro location of Limon Limon.
Limon Limon occupies the front corner of Tomodachi, a Japanese restaurant, so it's a little hard to find. Keep an eye out for these shades identifying the gelato shop.
I was delighted to find more than two dozen flavors of gelato and sorbetto in the case. Many are seasonal and unusual.
The staff were so friendly and generous with samples. I tasted mango, fig with port wine, kumquat with almonds, vietnamese coffee, chai with mixed spices, frutas de bosko, lemon, and more before deciding. Flavors were very true and not overly sweet with a clean finish.
Here's my Kumquat with roasted almonds and Fig with port wine in a piled high four-ounce cup. The texture's about medium density with a bit more air than the best examples. Outside there's a bench to sit and enjoy the helado.
We'll be back for sure.
