Did you know that Les Halles sold ingredients?

Steph | Sep 21, 2004 05:32 PM

I feel like an ignorant schmuck, but I had 2 friends visiting for a few days & they wanted to make me dinner, last night. They needed beef, so I sent them to the nearest butcher (French Butcher on 2nd Ave & 22nd). He gave them meat, then directed them to Les Halles to buy frisee, salad dressing, cheese, baguette, and other small ingredients.

The dressing was amazing - some kind of vinegar & peanut or sesame oil blend with shallots & garlic - and the baguette was possibly the freshest sold in the city. The cheese was also ridiculously good & well-priced.

How can I have lived in the neighborhood for 8 years & not known about this?!
