3 of us had dinner at Le Petit Cafe last night. It is on Colorado just East of Stewart in Santa Monica. It was almost full when we arrived. It is a very quaint place with simple, white tablecloth and wine bottle decor. I brought wine and the server happily opened it and served it. We started with the Escargot and the Goat Cheese salad. Escargot were tender and the garlic butter a delight, mopped up with the bread. Salad greens were very fresh and lightly dressed. Wife ordered Chicken in a white sauce. She loved the sauce but found the chicken a bit hard to cut. Friend and I got the Duck Confit. She got it with mashed potato and veggies, I got it with mixed greens. Confit was fairly moist, tender and quite flavorful. The duck eaten in combination with those superfresh greens was somewhat like eating a spinach bacon salad. I was very happy. The waitress was very helpful and patient as we did not want to order all the food at once. The crowd was mostly people from the neighborhood that look as if they go there regularly. The prices are quite reasonable. Apps. are all under $10.00, soups are only $5.00. Entrees are almost all under $20.00 with lots of choices closer to $15.00 (the chicken and the confit were this price) and one steak at $34.00. They brought a dessert tray and we selected a chocolate tart and a chocolate mousse. Mousse had a very moist cake base and shavings of a very good quality chocolate on top. The tart had a cookie type crust that went well with the dense, nutty chocolate filling. I would suggest this cafe to anyone. Very nice food and very inexpensive prices with friendly helpful service and a relaxed BYOB policy. What more can you want?
