I've gone to several of the Mexican places on Alpharetta Highway south of Mansell Rd. and the current favorite is Taco Fiesta. Yellow sign on the east side of the road next to a Mrs. Winners chicken place. They're open until 4am on Friday/Saturday and would make a great "this isn't the waffle house?!" stop after a night out late.
A few weeks ago I ate there probably three days in a row, mostly just getting beef, chicken or tongue tacos. You order and pay at the counter and there's a help-yourself condiment bar with varoius salsas, limes and whatnot in the seating area. Decor is fast-food like with a TV showing soccer games and a juke-box by the exit door. They do sell beer as well as Mexican soft drinks (the cane sugar sweetener used in Mexican Coke has a sweeter, cleaner flavor than the high-fructose corn syrup in the American version).
The mixed civiche is probably the most expensive thing on the menu ($10 or so) but is the reason I'm posting on Chowhound. The first time we had it it was simply amazing. Subsequent visits it was *very* spicy-hot, to the point that we were moving the jalapeno bits to the edge of the plate. Perhaps the first time they toned it down for us gringos?
Err.. Let me correct myself. The civiche isn't the most expensive thing on the menu. There's a mixed seafood soup that last time we were there we saw another table getting which is around $16. Seems high priced for a soup in a place where most items are in the $2-4 range but it looked great so we'll try it next time we go.
Online sites have the address as:
TACO FIESTA (678) 795-0049
10473 ALPHARETTA ST
ROSWELL , GA
But I think the road is called Alpharetta Highway - ?
There's a few mexican places nearby that I haven't tried (there's probably 6+ within a couple blocks!). Anybody got any favorites or dishes to recommend?
