After a positive first visit to this mariscos place(link below), I needed to get back and try one of the menu options.
I order the Camarones a la Cucaracha (~$8.50) which was desribed as Shrimp with a Chipotle sauce- HOT!. Considering that they also had a diabalo preperation with no warning I was expecting this to be a blow your head off experience. I recieved a reasonable portion of small shrimp (35-40 count maybe) that tasted fresh and were cooked perfectly. The slighlty oily red sauce was only slightly spicy and I did not pick up a great deal of smokiness but it had good flavor. It did not taste or look like a red chile sauce or a tomato sauce- I would guess chile+ a bit of tomato product+ soffrito + some stock?? Served along with the shrimp was rice cooked in stock with a bit of veg, corn tortillas (not house made) and a simple salad of iceberg/onion/tom./cucumber. Overall a very nice dish. While I was hoping for some more chile heat I quite enjoyed the meal (the sauce was great to dip tortillas in) and would order it again. Plus after eating a bit of the incendiary green chile salsa that comes with the mandatory empanadas my damaged tounge became more sensitive to the chile sauce on the shrimp.
And not that my Spanish only comment in my original post would do scare off any chowhounds, but my waitress last night spoke english.
