Laguna Report

Down in Laguna over the holiday. 5 Feet. Still there although I guess they have also opened at a nearby Marriot. Food disappointing. Kung Pao Calamari is tasty but greasy. Fried (whole) catfish really without much flavor at all. Fortunately there was a sauce it could be dipped in. Lots of other places do a whole catfish that tastes better, but this is supposed to be their signature dish.
Taco Mesa, PCH & Broadway. Great stuff, cheap. Carne asada tacos. Taco al pastor. Taco salad. All good. All flavorful. Lots of salsas and stuff. Somewhat reminiscent of La Salsa in the old days when I frequented the 6th Street outpost.
The Bungalow, Corona Del Mar. Casual for a high end steak place. The rib-in ribeye is prime. It is good though curiously lacks any sort of smokiness in the flavor. Fine if you want pure meat flavor but not as good if you are looking for some sort of overlay of taste. Comes with mashed potatoes, green beans (sort of almondine). Mushrooms are extra. Very nice Forschner steak knife which is sharp. An implement to be appreciated. A seared ahi starter actually had more bite. For about the same price as 5 Feet, this is a much better meal.
