La Piazza

Answering an earlier post regarding Oak Park, I thought I'd also leave a general mention of La Piazza in Forest Park. Although now well discovered by the locals (reservations highly recommended), this is a seemingly authentic and quirky place. I believe that the chef/owner is a recent emigree from Sicily, possibly via the Rosebud chain, but seems not to have been La Francesca-ized. Generally, based upon ~6 visits, the food ranges from very good to excellent while presenting very unique cuisine. A few memorable dishes, all good but mentioned more for their originality: pasta with sardine sauce, pasta with lobster and strawberries, and a dessert of custard with lemon slice and olive oil (pane cotta?). Their menu is big. As we've found, the wait staff can be a bit bizarre, but it adds to the fun. Finally, if you have kids they offer a make-your-own pizza.
