La Locanda del Ghiotonne

Went to La Locanda last night. A BYO at North Third and the corner of Cherry in Old City.

Brought a nice bottle of red wine and note that they only take cash or personal check, no credit cards.

This place was perfect to have a quiet dinner with an out of town friend from DC who was craving really good Italian and wanted to be able to hear the conversation between us since we had a lot of catching up to do.

Started out with antipasto for one ($7) and a spring mix salad with roasted red peppers and mozarella in a vinaigrette with olives and sundried tomatoes ($5, I think). The antipasto included a bruschetta with chopped toms and garlic, two rice croquettes, more roasted peppers and mozz, marinated mushrooms, olives, etc.

Both had the gnocchi del giorino which was a spinach and ricotta gnocchi with a tomato blush sauce and some mushrooms, with/without prosciutto ($15).

Not too heavily sauced, and really light and fluffy gnocchi, not like the bullets they can be in a bad execution.

Excellent bread that came with two interesting spreads.

For dessert, two cannoli, filled on the premises.

Friendly staff, no smoking, nice atmosphere.

Total bill, $53. A good value and a place I will return.
