Thanks for all the suggestions to my original post earlier last week for a nice place to have dinner with my fiancee whilst in Chicago.
I booked a table at Cyrano's and we made it to the restaurant in time to sit and have a drink before dinner. The bartender was extremely nice and friendly, explaining the nuances of apertifs and vodka, and even had time to put in a few jabs at the Angels (given this was just a night after the controversial out/not-out call). On to dinner:
fiancee had the tomato bisque, which was the special. it was served with chunks of roasted tomato and croutons - she said she could have eaten it all night.
i had the foie gras appetizer, which was pan seared, served with a confit leg, and accompanied with fried polenta "sticks" and mashed potatos. i love FG, and the confit was delectable. surprise hit was the mashed potatoes, as the curry gave just a hint of flavor without overpowering the dish.
fiancee then moved on to steak frites. oohs and ahhs aside, i could tell she really liked it. not much of a meat eater, but she really dug the dish. fries were excellent and came out shoe stringy thin - nice.
i had the tripe dish - because i love tripe. i didn't know how it would come prepared, so i just took a gamble. it was basically like a stew, with vegetables (leeks, carrots, potatoes, onions). VERY rich, but very fulfilling.
we split the bread pudding, which had ribbons of chocolate and dressed with a blueberry sauce. not too sweet, just how i like it.
great night - lovely place. pretty empty (surprisingly? on a thursday?). i can't tell you the cost, as my lady preempted the bill (sneaky one).
