La Colombe-Review

cricri7 | Sep 21, 2008 06:21 AM

I went to La Colombe last night. I was anxious to go there because I had heard many things about it and had never gone there. We went to the first service at 6 o'clock and were seated downstairs.

The table d'hôte is 42$ and comprises the soup, an appetizer, the entrée and dessert. The soup was a leek cream. It was good but nothing surprising there. You only have the choice of 2 appetizers, a duck terrine and escargots with blue cheese. I had those..they were okay but at 99 cents the escargots can they could have put more than 5-6 measly escargots! The sauce was not very tasty for blue cheese. We had to put pepper and salt. I had the magret de canard with a griottine sauce. It was good but the big complaint was that you get the same thing with all the entrées. You get 3 minuscule sauteed potatoes and green beans. The lamb shank was excellent. As for the dessert, you have 2 choices that go with the table d'hôte, panna cotta and a chocolate marquise, and you can take the fondant de chocolat for 7,50$ more. I took it and found it okay but not incredible.

I don't think I will be going back there. I thought I did not get what I paid for. The cappucino was more than ordinary and my friends who took the regular coffee said it was not good either. It was an okay dinner but not worth the price. Other people must not share my opinion because the restaurant was packed.
