As a team building event, took a group of co-workers to L'Acadamie for dinner a few nights back. I have oftened dreamed of being able to take some classes at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and may still do it in the future. I have had L'Acadamie on my list of places to try for some time. L'Acadamie is one of two restaraunts at the school, which serve as a hands on classroom for their students.
Upon arriving, the managers of the restaraunt were very friendly and were flexible in seating some of us before our whole group had shown up. In addition we had one additional diner join us which they accommodated with no problem. Although not part of the very reasonably priced $25.95 per diner (which included tax and tip), they had appetizers waiting for us at our table. All three were very good. One was a bruschetta with a mango salsa on top. One was a cucumber filled delicacy and the best was a Peruvian Potato item.
The $25.95 gets you one beverage, one starter, a main course and a dessert. I had the gazpacho and it was very good. Much milder on the tomato flavor then previous versions I have had in the past. My wife had the crab puffs and they too were tasty. For my entree I ordered the Kobe Beef in a mole sauce and the flavor combo was spot on. The mole might have had a little too much kick for some diners, but I like the little tingle it provided. My wife had the Lobster and Scallop filled raviolis. They were good, but probably not enough to eat for a hearty appetite. For dessert we all got a small, but delicious piece of cheesecake.
Although the wait staff was a little green, they were trying hard and were very friendly. I can't think of a better dinner value that I have ever had.
If you want to try something a little different and don't mind being a bit of a guinea pig, I say give L'Acadamie a try!
