I've seen a small but persistent number of postings (and private emails) about people who've gone out of their way to have dinner at Kway Tiow and been (as they must) disappointed.
For those who don't know, Kway Tiow was (in my, and many other hounds' opinion) the best Thai restaurant ever in NYC (though the old Ubol's was pretty great when it was on Broadway and Sripraphai is, to most everyone's agreement, dandy). It was out in Elmhurst, Queens.
But something very very very bad happened, and they're now cooking highly-sweetened Gringo Chow...and not good Gringo Chow, either.
So I nuked all the long Kway Tiow threads. All our passionate paens, all our endless analyses re: the fried bananas. All record of how great it once was. It's all gone, just like the crispy pork with greens (sob). (I also put a stern warning in my "What Jim Had For Dinner" accounts).
I felt it was important to protect future people from missing our warnings and shlepping to Elmhurst for yucky chow.
I have copies of all the messages, though...so if Kway Tiow ever gets good again (one can hope), I can put them all back. It'd be a lot of work to repost, but I'd be overjoyed
