Many of the reviews posted on Crispo rant about poor service and so-so food. My experience last night was quite the opposite. The service was great, maybe one complaint if you want to be nitpicky. Bread didnt come immediately. However when we asked for it, it was brought out promptly. Now to the food. Appetizers- Sopprasata w/ provalone, sauteed baby artichokes, porcini ravioli in brown butter (delicious!). Also, fried calamari- not the usual take. They were juicy and tender in a darker, slightly spiced batter- served with a bed of flash fried parsley and shallots- incredible! A side dish of asparagus in a crisped-brown paragianno crust was excellent. The potato croquettes were crisp outside, creamy inside- they maybe could have had a little more pizazz, maybe some parsley and a little more cheese inside. The entrees were both pastas- Bucatini All'Amitriciana, and plain ol' spaghetti n meatballs. The pasta was cooked al dente to perfection. The meatballs were made with veal and ricotta, and were not the usual heavy belly bombers. The only think I might change would be their size- rather than getting 2 large ones, a few smaller ones would have been my preference. All in all a great meal tho!
