Is there such a thing as kosher restaurant and if so where?

I had some difficulty explaining the word kosher to someone earlier today, who thought the word just meant meat. Then another question came about a kosher restaurant, and where can we find one. While kosher deli's and good NY style sandwiches can be readily found (many prior posts I suppose about this), and ditto with the gone downhill Max's Opera Cafes that have that plus chicken matzo ball soup, I couldn't think of a restaurant in the Bay Area or Peninsula that serves "kosher" dishes (not deli or sandwiches), or uses all kosher ingredients. Are there good ones that the hounds recommend?
