About a year ago I was a guest at a 50+ person party at Kome buffet in Daly City. This was my first time here. Conveniently it has parking next door and the BART station is nearby. We had a private room at one end of the restaurant that was relatively attractive and had been decorated for the occasion. It was a nice space to mingle and the main reason for coming here.
Though it bills itself as "Japanese", the best items on the extensive buffet turned out to be the Cantonese stir-fries and roast meats. BBQ spareribs, Cantonese roast duck, clams in black bean sauce, spicy green beans, and salt & pepper prawns were all quite credible. The steamed flounder with ginger and scallions was perfect, not something I expected to see on a buffet table.
The nigiri sushi were pretty scary. I picked a selection thinking I would consume the neta.. But on closer inspection of the fish slices, they were semi-frozen and of questionable quality, so no go.
Dim sum selection looked sad. A long line of impatient customers were waiting for xiao long bao to come out of the steamers. When I finally saw a sample, I decided not to wait any more.
To end, the eight treasure dessert soup was palatable.
