I was told you can keep champagne fresh after opening by hanging a spoon in the bottle. I tried this and it was somewhat ok the next day (don't know if the spoon did anything), but the handle of the spoon is now covered in rust.
1. has anyone ever heard of this method?
2. did I ruin the spoon or poison the champagne?
This is not a frequent problem, but what are you supposed to do when you don't finish the bottle?
ps - my new favorite drink is champagne and brandy, I've seen it called a French 75, don't know if it goes by other names.
