Kate's Kitchen

Kate's Kitchen on Haight Street is another SF specialty breakfast restaurant. We are lucky to have so many creative, tasty breakfast choices! Although Kate's serves lunch as well, the lines form for breakfast. I enjoyed the famous buttermilk cornmeal pancakes. They are plate sized and 2 will fill most chowhounds. You get a choice of toppings, the most popular of which is the strawberries and bananas with lemon curd. Given this pleasant combination, you hardly need the syrup. In a way, that is a shame, because Kate's serves REAL maple syrup.

The decor is colorful and funky, harmonious with the neighborhood (this is not Doidges where the waiters sometimes wear suits). The music can be a tad too loud for conversation. Service was good and friendly. Kate's is at 471 Haight. 415 626 3984.
