Back in May I enjoyed a solo breakfast at Kantine. At that point it had been open for almost a year. On a brisk and windy day, the outdoor seating was not an inviting option. Thought I’d laze here for a couple hours and catch up on email, however, the bent birch chairs were not so comfortable.
Trying not to be too Goldilocks about the chairs and seating choices, I can recommend the food and beverage. The elegant macchiato made with Portland’s Heart beans was top notch. The day’s savory porridge had a quinoa, oats and flaked rye base with additions of kale, asparagus, farmers cheese and toasted seeds. It’s so filling. I took the excellent morning bun home with me.
Though I seemed to have only photographed the morning pastries, Kantine has a full line up of dense, Northern European style dark breads. Anyone tried the baked goods here?
