Kansas City: Garozzo's fire

Apparently a burglar effort turned into arson at Kansas City's famed Italian restaurant, Garozzo's, late last night.

Located in the Little Italy district east of City Market (526 Harrison), Garozzo's has been a favorite of many locals and visitors to the city for the past 14 years. Mike Garozzo is one heckuva nice guy, and one fully expected Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett and Perry Como to simply walk in the door at any time and burst into song.

The apartments upstairs over the restaurant look like a total loss but the general manager says that the restaurant will be salvaged and will return. They'd only recently completed a million dollar remodeling. Most of the artifacts inside the restaurant were saved. No one was injured.

Garozzo's has three other restaurants in the metropolitan area, but for many, the "real" Garozzo's is in Little Italy. Mike Garozzo really helped to stabilize that neighborhood.

We're pullin' for ya, Mike and crew! Come back soon!
