I had Johnson's reccomended to me by a friend who's father was, at one time, the chaplain for the NC Senate. He said that the Senators would sometimes send a page from Raleigh to Siler City to pick up 100 cheeseburgers. I managed to make it by there yesterday for lunch, and I now know why the Senators burned up tax dollars for burgers. The place has been there since 1947,if I remember the sign correctly. Their menu is small, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, FF, sweet tea, lettuce and tomato, chili, and it seats less then 50. We had to wait for 2 at the bar to open. The burgers are small, 5 or 6 biters.
But OMG, are they good. The meat is cooked on a big griddle, and comes off with a little crunch, and the buns must be buttered and grilled too. The best part is the cheese, they must use Velveeta, or something like it. The meat and the cheese become one, and the chili adds more moisture to the already hot and moist bun. What a great texture and mouth feel.
Cheeseburgers are $2.85.
Located on hwy 64 in Siler City, on the right if you are going east.
