On a recent drive from Chicago area to Boulder, Colorado, the spouse and I decided to try the Nebraska steak experience at Johnny's Cafe in Omaha. The results were disappointing. Since we are not big-time steak eaters, we both ordered the small filet, cooked medium. The filets were brown throughout with just the lightest hint of pink in the center - well beyond medium - and had an unusual taste. There was none of the "crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside" character or flavor that you'd expect. The almost seemed like steamed steaks!
The small filet is the only heart-healthy steak on the menu, and could it be possible that it was fixed in an unusual way to make it healthier?
Other than that, Johnny's was fine - seating was comfortable, service friendly and competent, and the atmosphere was quiet with the hum of friendly conversation - altogether a very pleasant place for a meal.
Anyone else eaten at Johnny's? How was the steak?
