Jayakarta Restaurant, Berkeley report w/ pics

After hiking all day we went to Jayakarta after I recognized it's the place I've been wanting to try and it's really close to my friend's place.

I'm not too familiar w/ Indonesia food. This place is Indonesian-Singaporean cuisine which to me means fusion - kinda like a mix of Thai, Indian, Chinese, etc.

I ordered:
#20 Sop soup-tomatoes, potatoes & green onions & choice of meat added to savory broth of cloves & candlenut. I wanted Buntut (ox-tail) $8.50 but they didn't have any. So I got Kambing (goat) $7.50 instead. It had some fried thingies on top like corn flakes that I just gave away & took out. Broth was peppery, small amounts of goat which was fine, carrots don't like & were kinda hard, potatoes were small chunks & fine. Rice was extra $1.

Friend got: a weekend rice plate. He seemed to like it. Rice & stewed pork & 1 tiny fried chicken & one hard broiled egg. It's presented very nicely in a paper bag w/ a rubberband around it, inside is banana leaf & the dish. $7.50 or so.

Other friend got #32 Nasi Lemak $7.95? - bbq chicken marinated in coconut milk, bbq chicken in bamboo skewer, pickles w/ spices & fried crispy potatoes, peanuts & anchovies (he didn't want) over coconut rice. He liked it ok, he really didn't know what everything was when he got it, but ate everything.

Total bill was $26 before tip.

I'd go back to try more dishes & maybe even the Rjisttafel a Dutch-Indonesian dish that's $22.95 pp.

One unisex bathroom available in the back to the right.

Hrs: Daily 11a-10p

Many menu items can be made vegetarian on request.
