I'd really love a good izakaya in the city. Does anyone know of one?
I don't mean a place with "sushi" in the name. I don't mean a place that serves some sort of fusion. I don't mean one of these japanese-restaurant-in-a-box type places that slings you a salad drowned in mayonaise along with greasy tempura or goopy teriyaki.
I would love a place where they serve grilled fish beyond just mackeral and salmon. I would love a place that served okonomi-yaki. I would love a place where you can order yaki-tori individually.
There used to be a place called Tanto near Union Square which was great, but it's no longer around. There used to be a place called Ryoko's Izakaya on Taylor that was great until it turned into Ryoko's Sushi and westernized the menu. Tekka out in the Richmond is pretty good, but it is pricey and a little far from me.
