Well you normally think of fusion between cuisines, not within a cuisine, but Jafu Cafe may (or may not) be a case of the latter. It's the third successor restaurant to the original Oriental Pearl restaurant since it moved to San Gabriel a year ago year, and it might be a blend of Hong Kong style cafe and Szechuan style food. Beneath "Jafu Cafe" on the menu it says "Szechuan Best," which was the name of a prior, but not the most recent, restaurant at the same location. The menu is largely Hong Kong cafe style, e.g., fillet of sole, fried udon, New York steak, but a small number of Szechuan items are also thrown in. For someone who loves to try new Chinese restaurants, 621 W. Valley in Alhambra has been a gold mine for me, with 9 different restaurants in 10 years. At least for interesting looking dishes on the menu, this one seems to be near the top.
