A quick review about the Iqbal Kebab and Sweet Centre since I haven't seen a post about this wonderful restaurant (at least since I've been reading c.hound). I was introduced to the place by a friendly customer at one of South Asian groceries along the Danforth (who took the last of the breads I wanted). Right next to the restaurant is one of the most comprehensive South Asian (specializing in Pakistani and Halal groceries and meat) I've seen in T.O. I came away with a bottle of Bombay Duck (dried fish) pickle and lovely frozen kebabs along with the breads I wanted.
Iqbal k and s centre is a clean, unassuming place with counter service (food is brought to your table). We tried the paya (beef trotters stewed for hours until soft and fragrant) and lamb biryani. The owners are Pakistanis who came to Canada from East Africa, so (naturally) we tried the fried cassava. The food is brought to the table with three plastic bottles of spicy sauces--a nice touch. The paya is the best I've had in the city and would be the pride of Delhi (given a summer's eating there). The flavours can only be described as clean and crisp. I found myself sucking the wonderful juices out of the bones. The biryani was superb, filled with tender chunks of meat.
Anyway, I love this restaurant. I can't believe I've never been here before...
