Several of us who have been attending our recent "blowout" dinners thought a Chinese one would be a great idea. To make a long story short I got the job of organizing. I hope many of you will be able to join.
The basic parameters are as follows:
Date: April 16, Saturday eve.
What: A (fairly) traditional Chinese banquet (which is different from a group walking in and ordering a lot of stuff). Seating will be in tables of 10 with the courses served sequentially, and traditional banquet formalities will generally be observed.
Where: Hollywood East restaurant (the new location) in Wheaton; as CH regulars know, HE has a fine reputation for its Hong Kong style cooking.
Menu: 13 courses, including such items as scallops on the half-shell, Vancouver dungeness crab, and suckling pig. I will send you more complete information on request, but it will be good. We will, however, be avoiding endanged/super expensive ingredients such as shark's fin, abalone, and bird's nest.
Price: $72 per person plus tax and gratuity; I believe it will be well worth it.
If you are interested, please reply to me at the above e-mail address. I will add you to the list and keep you informed.
This promises to be a spectacular Chinese dinner and one which few of us ever have a chance to experience short of being invited to a wedding or other major Chinese family or business function. Don't miss it!
