Indonesian In Philly

Andrew | Oct 12, 2001 08:05 PM

I just spotted what I believe is the first full menu Indonesian restaurant to open in Philly. Called "Indonesia Restaurant", it has been open only a couple weeks, and is located at 1029 Race Street, in the heart of Chinatown. Phone# is 215-829-1400. Had no time to eat, but I did grab a menu. It looks extensive and authentic. Some highlights: 10 different types of grilled Satay, including Oyster and Beef Liver! Also Udang Pepes (spiced prawns wrapped in banana leaf), Soto Ayam (Chicken in a coconut milk and turmeric soups topped with bettlenut chips, fried onion, green onion and sweet soy sauce), Sambal Pencet (young mango salad with house chili sauce), Nasi Rawon (Indonesian beef stew with keluwek nuts), Nasi Urap Ayam (steam rice with assorted vegetables and chicken topped with spicy coconut scrape), Nasi Gudeg (tasty young jackfruit and coconut milk stew served with a side of chicken curry, egg, and steamed rice), Pecel Lele (catfish served with raw vegetables and hot chili appetizer, etc. 121 menu items in all. I think this one has definite DDC potential!
