This chain selling traditional Javanese-style chicken soup started over 55 years ago, and is still going strong. The secret of its success undoubtedly lie in its blend of spices (bumbu) which many others have tried to copy or emulate without success.
I tried it for the first time today, and the thick soup was outrageously delicious - well-spiced, robust, nutty, warm, comforting ... and so complex that, try as I might, I simply couldn't identify what actually went into their soup.
Slivers of chicken, potatoes, rice, cabbage and hard-boiled egg went into the bowl, before it's topped with the soup. I'm already planning my next trip down there.
