A few months ago I was having dinner at Cafe Spice on University Place and the bartender mentioned that he was moving over to a new indian restaurant on 21st. I walked by Turmeric (interesting menu) on my way to NY Burger Company, on Park Ave. and made a note to go back for dinner that evening.
Started with a order of potatoe patties ($9) with spiced peas and chicken kabobs ($6?). The patties came with a red and green chutney - the pea were nicely spiced. The chicken kabobs were amazing - juicy and wonderfully spiced, not to mild not to heavy - these kabobs sang. For my main I order the lamb with coconut ($17) and garlic nan ($2.50). I'm use to lamb & coconut in Indonesian/Malaysian food so I was intrigued as to how this dish would be. Once again - it was light not the molasses tone that is in indonesian (whic i love also) - spooned on some garlic nan - this was really good also. The bartender recommended a red Cote-Rhone (sp?) which matched everything nicely. While not an inexpensive meal, with tip $50. I would spend the same at Cafe Spice and now see C.S.'s food as a bit heavy handed- I'll defintely be back.
