Strolling down Park St. this warm afternoon, I couldn't (nor did I try very hard) resist the siren song of Tucker's.
I was rewarded for my lack of will power with an exciting new flavor: Zinfandel Chocolate Chip. This is grown-up ice cream that retains an amazing amount of the complexity of the Zinfandel. The flavor develops as it melts in your mouth, and then changes again when you chew on one of the chocolate minichips. It's not particularly sweet -- in fact it has an almost buttermilk tang.
Continuing in the not sweet vein, they also have a new grapefruit campari sorbet that is slightly bitter and very refreshing.
Other Alameda news: the anchor tenant (a natural foods grocery) at Alameda Market Hall is scheduled to open the second week in October. Word is that some of the other tenants that have been signed are a deli, a fish market/sushi bar and a florist.
And just a reminder: TJ's is supposedly opening at South Shore September 20. If you hear that the built-on-fill South Shore Shopping Center sinks into the Bay that day, you'll know it was the mass thronging to TJ's that did it.
Yes, Jennifer, you left Alameda too soon!
