hyperdelicious korean snack (where to find?)

Ali Naderzad | Aug 30, 2001 09:51 AM

Some time ago a Korean friend of my roommate's came over with a Fedex box, containing various items her granny had sent from California. Among these was a box containing a korean snack specialty. I tried it, and then had it a few times more after this day, and now I have lost touch with the woman, and her granny's snack. I have been trying to find this. I would describe it as cold squid in a kind of sweet and spicy molasses-type seasoning. If my memory isn't failing me, they throw sesame seeds in there, but I might be wrong(even if I am, I suppose it wouldn't be a bad combination anyway!). anyway, when you look at it it looks like like brown noodles.. the squids are like long worms.

Some batches granny made came out more fishy, some others more spicy, but no matter how, this is the most amazing stuff I've tasted. I tried the shops in koreatown, manhattan, and it's not easy to find, it seems. I think the problem here is that I don't know what I need to ask for. Once I thought I had the right name for it and went into korean rests asking for 'warm fishing worms.' oh-yea.

anyway, if anyone here can help I would be very grateful. this is the ultimate munchie food.

best, Ali Naderzad in NYC
