the humus was spoiled

The other day I purchased a pint of homemade humus from a middle eastern deli. And yesterday, when i opened it for dinner, I discovered it had already gone bad. Had that "fizzy" kind of taste of something wrong. Fortunately, I did not get sick.

But I was wondering -- should I just call and complain to the owner? Or go back in with the container in hand? Ask for a refund? I didn't keep the receipt but it's obvious from the style that it's their product. I can't prove that it was put away in the fridge as soon as I got home from the store.

What does everyone think about what's appropriate in this situation?
