On the advice of a few trusted local hounds we took some friends of ours to Jameson's last night for dinner. I knew I was in for it right away when they "joked" about the lack of seating and the fact that it was not "fine dining". Ummm - no kidding, it's a rib and fried fish/chicken joint.
To be fair to my friends, there was no air and it was really hot in there. I am much more likely to come back for takeout than eat in until the cold weather arrives. Speaking of takeout, there must have been at least fifty odd orders filled while we ate. They came and left with their packages in a steady stream.
As for the food, it was good enough to quiet the jokes. The fried chicken and fish were just as described - greaseless and crisp and tasty. The sweet baked ribs were not smoked but they were long slow cooked, fall off the bone tender and well coated with a true southern style sweet sauce. The collard greens were amazing and I confirmed my suspicion that there was a little sugar in them later.
I really wanted some peach cobler, but we were all spritzing to say the least and I was downright dripping from my bald head, so I settled for a container to go and we drove a short ways to the beach to cool off.
Excellent to find true southern food so close to home.
* One note - Jameson's is on restaurant.com! I got a $10 certificate from them there and used it last night. Normally these are $3 each, but they sometimes have "sales" and I got mine for 60% off, or $1.20!!! *
