Honey Banana 'Tejuinos La Dona' SD

I had my first proper cup of Tejuino today to cap my Pozole Verde just down the street on Highland.

There was a line for this place as well - but what I ended up with was well worth it. The people are not standing in line for nothing!

So what is Tejuino?

T is mildly fermented corn masa and piloncillo based drink that can be found in Western Mexico primarily. You can read this thread which provides an excellent overview of the drink: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/300931

It was great to watch to hurried man prepare this drink. He presses fresh key lime juice with his press adds some salt and then the tejuino - which he proceeds to pour back and forth - again and again between two cups to mix.

Refreshing. Addiciting flavor - not a touch overboard in sweetness. Slightly thicker body [its kind of difficult to describe this aspect of it]. You should try it out - it was a great restorative on a warm day like today!
