Followed Jerome's lead to Home Style, a Chinese restaurant in San Gabriel specializing in the cuisine of northeast China, an underrepresented cuisine in North America. Nice waitress. Good bean curd threads dressed with mild chile oil. Generous plate of "chao3 bing3," literally "fried pancake," a dish in which a pulled-apart pancake resembling a scallion pancake though without scallions stands in for the fried noodle-rice-niangao in a standard dish. Lovely "di4 san1 xian1," a combination of eggplant, tomato, potato and bell pepper, braised in savory sauce. Brilliant and funky on choy (aka "kong1 xin1 cai4") with fermented beancurd ("fu3 ru2"). Why don't more Chinese restaurants serve dishes involving fermented beancurd, the Chinese vegan cheese? Cattus, what did I forget?
