I am new to canning and I would like to make jam for Christmas gifts this year. I plan on using the boiling water bath method but I am very confused when it comes to what jars/lids to use. I prefer the look of hexagonal jars (with smooth sides for my own labels) but I have had a hard time finding much information online regarding their safety and use in home canning. I believe the lids are called "lug lids" (as opposed to mason jars which are continuous thread, and 2 separate pieces). Has anyone had success using these 1 piece lids? Are they safe?
